Facebook’s ‘Dislike’ Button is For Empathy, Not for you Haters

Hold up Haters!

You may have heard by now that Facebook is working on a dislike button and may be getting anxious to finally be able to express your disdain for that duck lipped photo or poo-poo’ing that disgusting-looking meal someone posted up with the hashtag #nomnom or #Foodie.

Not so fast!

Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has already stated last December that he is not interested in helping you downgrade someone’s content.

“Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to be able to say ‘that thing isn’t good,’ and we’re not going to do that,” Zuckerberg said at a town hall in December 2014. “I don’t think that’s socially very valuable, or great for the community.”

But he is giving in to the concern that some have about only having a “thumbs up” option to someone’s post about a loss in their family or an article about poverty.

Zuckerberg said  the tool  would be for showing empathy for posts that seem inappropriate to “Like,” such as news of natural disasters or loved ones dying.

“Not every moment is a good moment,” he said.

Facebook is currently testing out the tool, the first-time dad-to-be said, but gave no release date and we are not sure how the site plans to limit its use to just empathetic dislikes because the haters are chomping at the bit to do what they do best!

So calm down!
