Use Gender Differences in social media usage for smart marketing

gender-social-media

Women use social media for sharing images, news, getting entertainment and self-help.

Meanwhile, men use it generally for relationships and business. That’s what recent Nielson data suggest.

The gender differences in online use is stark and to a certain extent reinforce gender stereotypes. Men are on the prowl while still business minded. Women are always trying to better themselves while fawning over inspirational images of perfection. Okay, that may be a stretch but there are business lessons that can be learned here from those who create content or use social media or the online  space to draw in customers or future clients.

For example, women ignore paid advertising more often than men, a Finances Online survey revealed. This makes sense because women, in general, are more conscious of their social circle and ads are intrusive strangers.  This tidbit is useful to know if your business targets women and you were thinking of relying on paid ads to reach that demo. But they’re great for hunting down deals too: 71% of women on Facebook are willing to ‘like’ a brand for deals. Only 18% of men do that.

Further, the data showed that women play games in their smartphones 10% more often than men. In fact, women dominate men in almost all the top smartphone activities, such as, visit websites, download apps (surprise!), messaging, text, and camera use. Moreover, 38% of women play games on their smartphones, outnumber men by 10%!

While they’re playing games, men are looking for love: 13% of men use social media for dating in comparison to only 7% of women.
