Video truly is the next big thing and the Comcast announcement about a new digital video service called “Watchable” makes the point as well.

According to a Business Insider report, the new platform will offer non-exclusive, unlicensed and original content of several digital content developers. It will included content from new partners, AwesomenessTV, Refinery29, and The Onion, news sites like Mic and Vice, as well as legacy brands like NBC Sports.

When it launches, customers will be able to view Watchable on Comcast’s Xfinity X1 set-top boxes and using the Internet.

The power cable company recently invested in online digital content companies Buzzfeed and Vox Media, with the idea being it will use its stake to continue its foray into the video, content and content marketing and advertising market.

Fortune hypothesizes that old media needs a foray into the new ways people are consuming content and New Media needs the capital that Old Media is sitting on!

Sounds like a perfect union!
