Twitter Outbids Video Streaming Vets to Win NFL Thurs Night Football Rights

We want to big up and give a shout out to Twitter because it outbid the big boys who are long-time vets in video programming delivery and won the rights to stream NFL Thursday night Football on its popular social media platform.

Twitter will stream 10 games starting fall 2016 for free, a statement from the NFL indicates.

Verizon, Yahoo and Amazon all were in the running for the rights, Bloomberg reported. And Twitter’s fellow social media giant Facebook was in it too, but dropped out of the bidding last week, the report said.

Twitter has needed a shot in the arm for a while with its downward fluctuating stock price since its IPO, and it has been wanting to get more in the original video content creation or management business for awhile now and this looks like it will be a good boost. It paid under $10M for the rights, Re/Code reports insiders close to the process as saying.

Twitter’s stock rose over 1% on release of the news.
