Fashion Meets Tech Meets Taylor Swift?
With next year’s Met Gala having a tech theme, it only made sense that Swift and Apple‘s Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive would co-chair along with Idris Elba, and Vogue‘s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
The design world and celebrities will gather in extravagant fashion to honor the opening of the exhibit”Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” to be displayed at New York City’s Metropolitan Gallery of Art.
Designers Karl Lagerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquière, and Miuccia Prada are honorary chairs of the annual parade of exotic and outrageous costumes put on by the Costume Institute.
This is the era of the 3-D Printer and since it exploded on the market, we have seen the out-of-the-box thinking fashion designers take advantage of the technology.
The Met says on its website announcing the exhibit that the display “will explore the impact of new technology on fashion and how designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear.”
It will showcase more than 100 pieces and juxtapose traditional techniques such as embroidery and lacework with new ones like laser cutting and 3D printing.
Cool beans! Oh and it helps that Apple is sponsoring the exhibit, huh?
