‘Little Boy’ filmmaker bucks CGI technolgoy movie making trend

During an age in time when many movie-makers are relying on technology and the magic of tools like Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), the producers of the new film “Little Boy” bucked the trend and went old school.

They opted to build the Norman Rockwell inspired mid-western slice of Americana set that frames the backdrop of the film from scratch

“I thought they don’t make films like this anymore,” many people told writer and director Alejandro Monteverde about the World War II era coming-of-age drama about a boy who tries to use a combo of faith and supernatural powers to summons his dad back from war.

Indeed it is a rarity.

Monteverde, who last directed the award-winning 2006 film Bella, said he used much of his $20 million budget to build a fictional town from the ground up.

“The light poles, the streets, the street signs, everything we built,” he explained during an interview with TechYaya before the movie opened last week.

The nostalgic feel comes through.

It is quite refreshing to see a little bit of traditional movie making on the big screen.

See Little Boy at theaters nationwide! It’s up against block busters like Avengers so could use all the support from lovers of cinema and good heart-warming stories
