Each time our social media apps update, we notice something new so we thought to share what’s new this week in case you haven’t noticed yet.
1. Swarm by Foursquare added leaderboards after users complained about missing out on the gamification aspect to the location-based social media network – TechCrunch
2. Periscope The big news from Pericope this week is the unveiling of the landscape option. The purpose was to make it accessible when Apple TV rolls out. The app also now alerts on screen when a watcher shares the scope and Periscope now permits a direct link to Facebook from the app. – Variety
3. Facebook has created a new service called Signal that allows journalists to easier find news on Facebook and Instagram as well as track down users’ reactions, photos, and videos related to news, sports, and entertainment. It is looking to take a bite out of Twitter’s appeal which is popular among journos looking for easy quotes via tweets. – Wired
4. Instagram added a group messaging feature. The group messages will appear as a thread where each person added can see the full history of the chat- Cosmopolitan
5. Facebook is testing a new mobile layout to cater to the mobile-first reality and world. –Fortune
6. Tumblr‘s new 4.5 update allows users to connect from the blog directly to Twitter or Facebook which they set as linked accounts.
7. Pinterest has topped up and now has 100 Million users. In its recent update, the digital social media bookmarking site announced it has created a faster way to get to a pin for those who have updated to the new iOS9. It also teamed up with TopShop to allow users to see their pins in color palettes. – Pinterest
8. Facebook Comments – Our editor has noticed that the like and comment section in the mobile app is also updated so that when one goes to comment on a post, a comment button pops up. The profile images for those who have Liked the post appear in a row and the comments then float down into order. There are stylized differences too in the text and font and way the likes, shares and replies look visually.
9. Pinterest – Those who get the new iPhone with 3D Touch will be able to press and hold the Pinterest app icon from their iPhone’s home screen to quickly search for Pins, create a board or see what’s popular on Pinterest. “Once you’re in the app, you can press any Pin to get a bigger preview and quickly Pin, like or send. Press the board name to get a preview of the board it came from,” a spokesperson said. – WebProNews
