StartUp Weekend DC Aims to ‘Flip’ the usual Male/Female Tech Event Ratio

flip the ratio

See this photo above is the norm at tech events, but last year StartUp Weekend DC Women edition managed to “Flip the Ratio” and got an overwhelmingly majority female participation rate.

The goal was 70/30  but it achieved 90% with just under 100 participants.

The organizers hope to do it again with this weekend’s event held at popular DC incubator 1776, which interestingly enough is the venue in the above photo.

To get such a high number of female participants last year, co-creator Nikita Jotwani reached far and wide but it wasn’t too hard.

“Entrepreneurs are everywhere, we have reached out to the general tech community and communities focused on women tech groups,” Jotwoni said. “Feedback has been great. People are excited since it’s a fairly new concept and very encouraging for women.”

During the weekend, leaders, entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can innovate and build a venture together in 54 hours.

It’s not too late to join. There is a modest $99 admission fee. Sign up HERE!
